Why President Biden Should Make Facemasks Mandatory… and Permanent.

Smart people.

People of Earth, rejoice! The great, big, bad, Cheeto president has been defeated! Through a coordinated effort from Black Women, Latinxs, and Trans-Women, little Donny boy’s disastrous response to COVID 19 can now be reversed under the Biden administration. I want to make it clear: President Joe’s first step as President should be one that should have been made a year ago: make facemasks mandatory across this country. He should also go one step further, and make mask requirements permanent. The science is perfectly clear.

  1. Masks. Saves. Lives.

This case has been made ad infinitum and has been proven to be true, but that hasn’t made it through to a certain demographic of the country. Instead, driven by misinformation and fake news, they falsely make claims like the coronavirus survival rates are higher than the seasonal flu and that forcing mask wearing is a form of social control. Read in between the lines with this dog-whistle, and you’ll find the driving force behind mask denialism is at the intersection of Conservatism and Fox News-style lies. Also known as Main Street.

2. Putting an end to racism while highlighting the BLACK experience.

Masks fight racism. It’s no secret that Coronavirus hurts minority communities more. Because we live in a white supremacist patriarchy, many of our Black brothas and sistahs (can I get a what what?!) are dying from COVID in ways that whites simply aren’t. It’s for this reason I would support President Biden and Kamala Harris’ decision to recategorize white deaths from COVID as “Deaths While Having COVID,” instead of the current Trump-era racist description of dying from COVID. You can be white and die with COVID, but only minorities are dying FROM the virus.

3. Easily identifiable intelligence.

Masks are an unbeatable visual marker for people who are intelligent, who believe in science, who get their news from the correct cable news channels, and who should be rightfully discarded from polite society. Please indulge me in a personal journey I experienced just the other day with a non-mask wearer.

First off, a point of clarification. Anyone who knows me knows I despise school zones and crosswalks. I do not understand why the little creatures that spawn from the masses’ unchecked sexual urges should create traffic jams in my neighborhood. The other day, however, I was able to channel the rage for something positive: casting out a non-mask miscreant from society.

I’ve learned everything I know about COVID from studiously watching intelligent cable news shows. That’s why I was shocked to see a school crossing guard remove and adjust their mask in public, endangering every child in that school. Even having a mask off for a split second can mean the difference between life and death for minority students. I knew what had to be done, and after a little sleuthing, I found out that guard’s name and forwarded it on to the Superintendent of the school district as well as created a viral Facebook post naming AND shaming this person.

This was a two fold win: I’m pleased to announce that they are no longer employed with the district and that the school no longer has a crossing guard. The children are safe and I get to enjoy my neighborhood roads uninterrupted from delay. Without the dynamics of mask-wearing at play, this person would have still had a job. Horrifying.

Conclusion.

So, let’s raise a glass for the Biden administration! Let’s hope they enact commonsense measures, based on good science. Here’s to hoping for foreign policy from the 2000s, and social policy from the brightest minds on Twitter. With Trump gone, we can finally return to the way things used to work. Now that is some good news. #BlackLivesMatter
